Song of the Soul

The earth hurts. And when it hurts, I hurt.

This painting came out of a very intense empathy with a particular piece of land. The forest had been destroyed and the earth disregarded. When I greeted what was left of the trees, they responded with what I can only interpret as anger. I laid down and I listened and I cried (a common activity I partake in).

I’ve never felt the kind of pain that I felt that day. I knew I loved the earth, but I had no idea how deeply that love could run until I felt her in that way.

May we all possess the strength to lay down and listen… and then get up, speak up, and make changes.
